About our concrete contractor company in Owatonna

How a wheelbarrow job became our Owatonna concrete business
I got my start as a helper on a small concrete crew, hauling forms and running the wheelbarrow, and I stayed long enough to learn every step of a pour, from the subgrade, the ground the slab sits on, to the last pass of the broom. In 2017 I started Truegrade Owatonna Concrete right here in Owatonna, and these days we're best known for driveways, patios and steps that look good and stay put.
Most of our calls come from homeowners, plus some small business owners and folks putting up a garage or a new home. I still come out myself to look at the job and write the estimate, and I'm on site with our crew when your concrete goes in. Ever wonder why one driveway sinks and cracks while the neighbor's holds? It's usually what's underneath, so that's where I put my attention. You can see what we pour on our home page, and when you've got a question, even a small one, ask it through our contact page.

What working with our crew is like
These are the things you'll notice from the first visit to the day we pack up, and they come from what I learned on other people's crews before I ran my own.
The person who bids it is there for the pour
I look at your job and write the estimate, then I'm on site with our crew when the concrete goes in. That way nothing you told me in the driveway gets lost before the truck shows up.
An estimate you can compare fairly
Your estimate lays out the prep, the reinforcement and the finish in plain words, including whether there's rebar, the steel inside that helps hold the slab together if it cracks. So you can set it beside anyone else's bid and see if you're comparing the same job.
Most of our care goes under the slab
When a budget gets tight, the base is the first thing people want to trim because nobody sees it on day one. I'd rather keep a plain broom finish, the light texture that gives your shoes grip, and spend it on a dug-out, packed base and water that runs away from your house, since that's what keeps a slab from settling with the dirt.
Permits sorted before your pour date
We check with the city or county office early on each job, which in Owatonna means the city's Building Inspections office, and when a permit is needed we help with the paperwork. Then we plan the work around the inspections, so paperwork doesn't hold up your pour.
Licensing and insurance for your concrete job
Our license and insurance
Fully licensed and insured. Ask us about it at the estimate, and we'll go over what it covers on your job.
Minnesota's residential contractor license rule
The Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry requires a residential building contractor or remodeler license when a contractor works directly for the owner of a one- to four-unit home on more than one special skill. A contractor doing just one skill doesn't need that state license, so it's worth asking any bidder which kind of work they're taking on for you.
